After several efforts to be amongst the top best Universities in the world, the Federal University of Technology Minna, Niger State has been ranked among the 100 best universities in Africa.
Making this disclosure on Thursday, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Musbau Akanji, said the rating was from among over 2,000 universities on the continent.
Akanji, who did not give the rating of the FUT among Nigerian universities, however, said the management was doing everything possible to improve on its standing nationally and continentally both in the quality of its graduates and research findings.
The VC said this when he briefed the media on the 34th foundation anniversary and 26th convocation of the University, which will commence on Friday, disclosed that 3,734 students would receive first, Masters and doctorate degrees as well as diplomas.
Giving a breakdown, he said 2,788 students would receive first degrees, 637 will get Masters degrees, while 35 others would receive Doctorate degrees.
According to Akanji: “Thirty-four students passed with first class, while 790 came out with second class upper division, with 1,345 students haven graduated second class lower division, while 549 passed with third class and 70 would graduate with pass degree.”
He added that all the graduands would be given the originals of their certificates, saying that issuance of “statements of results” has been outlawed in the institution.
Akanji said the university has also made it a policy to graduate its students, adding: “Combination convocation ceremony is illegal.”
He said any graduate parading statement of result “is doing so illegally”.
