FAAN sensitises airport users to dangers of debris

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria has begun the removal of Foreign Object Debris and sensitisation of airport users to keep the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, clean and safe.
The spokesperson for NAIA, Voke Ivbaze, said that FODs were very dangerous if not removed from the airport, especially the runway and apron, adding that FODs pose danger to aircraft seamless operations.
Ivbaze explained that the authority had ensured that there was inspection on a daily basis not just because of FODs but for security and comfort of passengers.
Meanwhile, FAAN has announced that the Departure Hall at the Terminal D of Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, would commence operations in anticipation of traffic surge during Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
A statement by Henrietta Yakubu, FAAN’s General Manager, Corporate Affairs, on Tuesday, said the decision was to ease facilitation formalities of departing passengers at the airport before the celebrations.
Yakubu also assured all airport users that Nigerian airports under FAAN management were fully ready to play host to air travellers during the Eid–el-Kabir celebrations.
She said: “Airport security and other logistics have been upgraded and strengthened to provide for the expected increase in passenger traffic in and around our airports.
“In anticipation of traffic surge owing to the season, management is set to open the Departure Hall at the Terminal D of Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, to ease facilitation formalities of departing passengers at the airport before the Celebrations.
“We have also installed new directional display units to guide travellers, especially new ones, at our airports.
“We advise the general public and intending travellers to make early preparations towards completing their travel requirements in good time.
“We will also like to restate that receiving of dignitaries at restricted areas by security agents and airport officials is prohibited and anyone found wanting will be apprehended and prosecuted.”
