Felix Anyansi-Agwu, Chairman of Enyimba International Football Club of Aba, on Friday assured that his team was fully prepared for the 2016/2017 Nigeria Professional Football League season.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Enyimba will take on Sunshine Stars FC of Akure on Janury 15 in their Match Day 1 fixture of the new league season.
Anyansi-Agwu told NAN that his team would be looking towards gaining victory in the game against the Sunshine Stars.
Anyansi-Agwu said: “Our first game of the league season against Sunshine Stars is going to be a very big game. But I expect nothing less than a win for us, especially because we are beginning our campaign at home.
“Sunshine Stars have always been tough opponents, but we have a special mentality with which we approach games like this, and that is why we are Enyimba.
“However, I think what matters most is how well you have prepared for the league.
“It’s not just about the Match Day 1 game because at some point you are still going to meet the other 18 clubs in the league.
“Now we have barely a month left before the new league season begins and I think it will be an interesting one.”
NAN reports that the Aba Elephants hold a slim head-head record against Sunshine Stars, having won twice and lost once, with three draws in the last three seasons.
Enyimba were held to a goalless draw at home, while they lost 0-2 away to Sunshine Stars in the return fixture of the 2015/2016 NPFL season.
Sunshine Stars however finished the league season in sixth place, while Enyimba ended 10th on the 20-club NPFL table.
