Electronic transmission of poll results: See how Senators voted

A list of how about 50 Senators voted in the debate on electronic transmission of results by the Independent National Electoral Commission has emerged.

Eighty senators were in the chambers when the Call for Division on the issue was made on Thursday.

While 52 opposed the move for electronic transmission of results, 28 voted in favour as earlier reported by The Eagle Online.

At the end, the debate, which was part of the overall move to amend the Electoral Act, had conditions attached to INEC transmitting results of elections electronically.

According to the final resolution, INEC can only transmit results with the consent of the Nigerian Communications Commission and the National Assembly.

Those who voted against the move were largely senators elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, while those who belong to the Peoples Democratic Party supported INEC releasing results electronically.

The result of the voting during plenary as coordinated by the Clerk of the Senate and approved by the President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, saw 52 voting against granting INEC automatic powers to electronically transmit results and 28 in favour.
