Former senior international, Benedict Ugwu, who is the head coach of Enugu male football team to the 18th National Sports Festival holding in Lagos, has promised to lead his team to the ultimate football prize of the event after his boys over-ran their Kwara counterpart 2-0 on Thursday.
The former left back of Rangers International FC said: “With this victory, we are on track for our target in this festival, which is the Gold medal.
“We did not start the competition too well after our goalless draw with Gombe State team but with this victory over Kwara, we are back on track.
“I respect every team that qualified for this competition but we don’t fear any of them.
“We are a side that has prepared so well for this competition and we left Enugu with a promise to our sports commissioner that we are coming back with the gold medal.”
Two goals, one in each half of the game, helped the Enugu State team beat the Kwara State team 2-0, with Ayogueke Chukwuma’ sublime strike on 23 minutes while Adimoranma Ezeh completed the rout on 75 minutes after missing a lot of scoring chances.
It is recalled that the Enugu female football team defeated their Benue State counterpart with a 3-0 spanking in the opening match.
