The Chairman of the Ondo State Oil Producing Area Development Commission, Debo Ajimuda, was, on Tuesday, arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission for allegations of corruption.
The arrest, during which 13 vehicles were taken away from Ajimuda’s house, was characterised by a mild drama.
Ajimuda, sensing that the EFCC was after him, had fled to the house of a neighbour, putting on just a white singlet and boxers.
He was barefooted.
It was in the house of his neighbour that he was eventually arrested, led into his house and a search conducted for about several hours.
The operatives of the EFCC had earlier gone to the office of OSOPADEC where they were engaged in a shouting match by the workers.
Indeed, some of the workers also invited the police, claiming that kidnappers had stormed their office.
Ajimuda was eventually whisked away at about 2.30pm.
But the state government has faulted the procedure adopted by the EFCC in effecting Ajimuda’s arrest.
The Ondo State Commissioner for Information, Kayode Akinmade, said: “It is not proper for the anti-graft agency to just invade the office and home of the OSOPADEC boss and arrest the man without any formal invitation.”
