The Police in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State have arrested a gang of kidnap suspects, including a woman, operating in different parts of the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, ASP Chris Anyanwu, said the suspects were arrested during various operations.
Anyanwu said items recovered from them included AK-47 riffle, live ammunition and N940,000.
Others were Mitsubishi L300 bus with registration No. KPP 224, Sports Utility Van (SUV) with registration No. KSF 576 CW and a Toyota Camry car.
Anyanwu said an ML 320 Mercedes Benz Jeep and SIM cards of different GSM service providers were also recovered from the suspects.
Anyanwu said the operation that led to the arrest of the culprits was made possible by a reliable intelligence report received by the police.
He said some of the suspects were arrested at their residence, while others were picked outside their places of abode.
The leader of the gang confessed to committing the crime and said that he resorted to kidnapping after he lost his parents.
The only woman in the gang said she joined the group through her husband who was serving a jail term in Enugu.
