Delta 6th Assembly inaugurated, Igbuya emerges Speaker

The Sixth Assembly of the Delta State House of Assembly was on Monday inaugurated following a proclamation by the state Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa.

The Clerk of the House, Lyna Ocholor, who read the Governor’s proclamation letter at exactly 10:06am, immediately presided over the elections that produced Hon. Monday Igbuya, representing Sapele Constituency, as the Speaker, and Hon. Friday Osanebi, representing Ndowka Constituency, as his deputy.

Igbuya’s unanimous adoption after he was nominated by the member representing Ughelli North I, Hon. Samuel Mariere, and seconded by Hon. Tim Owhefere, Isoko North, and his eventual swearing in, ushered in the beginning of the Sixth Assembly.

The nomination of Osanebi by the outgoing Speaker, Rt. Hon. Peter Onwusanya, was seconded by Hon. Dennis Omovie (Warri South II).

The oath of office was administered on the new speaker and his deputy by the Clerk of the House in the main chamber of the House.

Those that subscribed to the oath of office included Hon Osi Okocha (of the Accord Party, Aniocha North), all other 28 members are of the Peoples Democratic Party, namely Angel Nwaka (Aniocha South), Oboro Preyor (Bomadi), Daniel Yingi (Burutu One), Kennedy Daubry (Burutu Two), Evans Iwhure (Ethiope East), Erhiatake Ibori (Ethiope West), Samuel Mariere (Ughelli North One), Prince Oharisi (Ughelli North Two), Daneil Mayuku (Warri South West), Micheal Diden (Warri North), Godwin Abigor (Warri South One), Dennis Omovie (Warri South Two) and Johnson Erijo (Isoko South Two).

Others are, Oriezi Esievo (Isoko South One), Tim Owhefere (Isoko North), Alphonsus Ojo (Ukwuani), Azuka Azaka (Ndokwa West), Rueben Izeze (Ughelli South), Pat Ajudua (Oshimili North), Peter Onwusanya (Oshimili South), Festus Okoh (Ika South), Anthony Elekeokwuri (Ika North East), Timi Tonye (Patani), Efe Ofobruku (Uvwie) and Chief Peter Uviejitobor.

Igbuya, in his acceptance speech, said he has gathered enough experiences in the past eight years to pilot the affairs of the state legislature.

While he called for maximum support of all stakeholders to succeed in the task of prosperity for all Deltans, he pledged to discharge his constitutional duties diligently, without fear or favour.

Referring to himself as the “first among equals”, Igbuya said: “I will do his best to provide the required leadership of the house.”
