The Dan Iya Geri of Ilorin Emirate, Engr. Suleiman Bolakale Kawu, has been honored with the “Nuru Rushdullah” award by the Rushdullah Adabiyy School of Arabic and Islamic Studies, Ilorin.
The award recognizes his outstanding contributions to Islam and community development.
The presentation ceremony, held in Ilorin, was graced by religious scholars, community leaders, and well-wishers who commended Engr. Kawu for his dedication to faith and societal progress.
In his acceptance speech, delivered on his behalf by Alh. Abdulwahab Oba, former Chairman of the Lagos State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Engr. Kawu expressed deep gratitude for the honour.
He reaffirmed his commitment to the propagation of Islam and the advancement of the community.
Engr. Kawu also used the occasion to strongly condemn the recent gruesome killing and dismemberment of Hafsoh Yetunde Lawal, a female undergraduate of the College of Education, Ilorin.

The crime was allegedly committed by a 29-year-old supposed Muslim cleric.
Describing the act as barbaric, un-Islamic, and a stain on humanity, he emphasized that Islam upholds the sanctity of life and strictly forbids violence and injustice.
He urged parents, community leaders, and the government to intensify efforts in monitoring and guiding young people, stressing the importance of moral and religious education.
“This tragic incident is a wake-up call for all of us. We must not only educate our children but also be vigilant about the influences around them. The community and government must work together to prevent such atrocities,” he stated.
Engr. Kawu demanded swift and decisive justice for the bereaved family, urging law enforcement agencies to ensure that the perpetrator faces the full weight of the law.
The event concluded with prayers for peace, justice, and moral rectitude in society.
