CP urges newly promoted policemen to shun unethical behaviour

The Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, Fatai Owoseni, on Wednesday urged personnel of the command to shun unethical behaviour that could dent the image of the police.
Owoseni spoke while decorating newly promoted policemen in Ikeja.
He charged the personnel to shun extortion and respect the public to gain respect and goodwill in return.
The commissioner said 10,042 of the 28,030 personnel in Lagos State benefited from the promotion, with 550 promoted to the rank of Corporal, 7,417 to Sergeant and 2,075 to Inspector.
He told the policemen: “Shun extortion.
“If you don’t, the long arm of the law will catch up with you.
“Stop torture, extra-judicial killing and let us be careful and take cognizance of our appearance in public.
“We should always dress properly and remember that when you are not putting on the police cap, which has the symbol of authority, you are no longer a policeman and you cannot exercise your duty as a policeman.”
Owoseni charged the personnel to be of good conduct, reiterating that the police would keep embarrassing bad eggs within its ranks to serve as deterrent to others.
Owoseni charged the newly promoted personnel to give their best, adding: “To whom much is given, much is expected.”
Also, the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of operations, Fimihan Adeoye, charged the personnel to be of good conduct and be professional in discharging their duty.
Adeoye urged them to be conversant with the Police Act and regulations and avoid unguarded utterances.
