Dr Ibrahim Adamu, Director of Public Health, Ministry of Health in State told the News Agency of Nigeria on Tuesday in Lafia that 12, 420 persons have so far been tested.
Adamu said that out of 12, 420 persons tested for the the virus, 728 came out positive, while 16 persons had died due to complications from the infection.
He said that the rate the new strain of the pandemic was spreading in the state was worrisome, stressing that the state was intensifying its efforts to check the spread.
The director noted that the new strain of the COVID-19 spread fast and was more lethal.
He attributed the spread of the second wave of COVID-19 in the state to the relaxed attitude of the people towards the preventive protocols prescribed by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control.
“Some people are still living in denial of COVID-19, while others threw caution to the winds following the decline of case after the first wave.
“So many no longer take responsibility for their protection and others by observing physical distancing, use of facemask and regular hand washing.
“We are, therefore, rejigging our risk communication to improve social distancing, hand washing, use of hand sanitiser, because we have discovered that people have gone to sleep as far as COVID-19 is concerned,” he said.
