An Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court on Thursday remanded one Daramola Adewale in prison custody for allegedly beating of a woman to death.
The Police Prosecutor, Corporal Bamikole Olasunkanmi, told the court that the accused committed the offence on July 1, at Igbemo-Ekiti in the Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government Area of Ekiti
Olasunkanmi alleged that the accused on the said date, unlawfully caused the death of one Iyabo Daramola by beating her to death.
He said that the offence contravened Section 319 of the Criminal Code, Cap C16, Laws of Ekiti State of Nigeria.
Olasunkanmi said that he had sent a duplicate of the case file to the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions for advice.
The plea of the accused was not taken, while his Counsel, Ibrahim Lawal, prayed the court to grant bail to the accused, promising that he would not jump bail.
The prosecutor opposed the bail application of the counsel, saying that the offence was not bail-able.
Chief Magistrate Simeon Ojo, subsequently, remanded the accused in prison custody till the outcome of the DPP’s legal advice.
He adjourned the case to August 5, for further hearing.
