An Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court has ordered the remand of a 33-year-old man, Ayeni Akinyemi, in the correctional centre in Ado-Ekiti for alleged membership of a secret cult.
The suspect, whose address was not provided, was brought to court on Thursday and is being tried for alleged cultism.
The Prosecutor, Inspector Elijah Adejare, told the court that the suspect committed the offence on May 19 at about 10:30am at Ikole-Ekiti.
Adejare said that the suspect was found to be a member of Black Axe “Aiye” confraternity.
According to him, the offence contravenes Section 41 of the Criminal Laws of Ekiti State, 2021.
The prosecutor urged the court to remand him in a correctional centre, pending legal advice from the office of the Director of Public Prosecution.
The plea of the suspect was not taken.
The Chief Magistrate, Franca Olaiya, ordered his remand in the correctional centre, pending issuance of legal advice.
Olaiya adjourned the case till Aug.4 for mention.
