Controversy looms in the Nigeria Premier League again as Abubakar Bukola Saraki Football Club of Ilorin on Wednesday picked three points and three goals at the expense of Sunshine Stars FC without kicking a ball.
Following the absence of the Ondo State-owned outfit at the Ilorin Township Stadium for the rescheduled Week Three game, the Centre Referee, Nwabueze Maurice from Abia State, performed the walk over formality.
This happened at a time players of Sunshine Stars were holding a training session at the Yaba College of Technology ahead of their departure for Angola on Thursday for CAF Champions League date with Livono FC.
The match commissioner, Dr. Saulawa Aliu Ibrahim frorm Katsina State, said that ABS had to walk over their opponents since there was no information as to their absence from the game.
He said: “There was no communication from Sunshine Stars about their failure to honour this match.
“In line with the rules and regulation, ABS has recorded three goals, three points, subject to ratification by the NPL.”
However, the Chairman of the Ondo State Football Agency, the managers of Sunshine Stars, Segun Adagunodo, insisted that the club had duly sought for a shift in date due to its continent engament, describing the walk over as a huge joke.
