Comedian’s fans call for release of his kidnapped wife

Nigerians and fans of the popular Rivers State comedian, Mike Ogbolosingha, on Tuesday in Abuja expressed concern over the kidnap of the celebrity’s wife, Chime Mike Ogbolosingha, and called for her release.

According to the comedian, his wife was kidnapped on Sunday in Obio Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State after six gunmen stormed their Elenprawon residence and took her along with other valuables from the house.

Ogbolosingha said the kidnappers had not established contact with any member of the family.

However, he has publicly appealed for her to be released unconditionally.

Reacting to the news about her kidnap, Jude Akpata, a student of University of Abuja, told the News Agency of Nigeria said he felt disappointed over the fragile security situation in the country.

Akpata said: “I am disappointed in the Nigerian security system as it has become extremely useless and non-existent.

“How come we keep hearing of various people being kidnapped but we barely hear of the arrest of confirmed kidnappers?

“It just seems to me like we no longer punish people for their terrible crimes.”

Tonye Ibinabo, an Abuja-based doctor, expressed the hope that Ogbolosingha’s wife would return home safely and that government would do something to stop the recurring kidnap problem in the country.

Ibinabo said: “It is no longer safe to be in this country as even the rich and well connected can no longer defend or protect themselves from being kidnapped and this is scary and the government must do something to change this.

“I just pray his wife is returned and the people who enjoy committing these crimes are captured.”

Also commenting, Blessing George, an Abuja-based entrepreneur, observed that the kidnap problem was apparently on the rise.

George said: “This crime seems to be worse in the South and East of Nigeria and as a business woman, this is bad news for me because those areas are key sources of my supplies to Abuja and now I’m scared of travelling to those areas for anything.

“Honestly, I am even scared of leaving my house because kidnapping of innocent individuals is on the rise.”
