The Central Bank of Nigeria in partnership with North West Entrepreneurship Centre, Kano will train 500 women in Katsina State.
Governor Aminu Masari announced this at the launch of the programme on Tuesday in Katsina, noting that the participants hailed from the 34 local government areas.
Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Mustapha Inuwa, Masari said the programme was in line with the present administration’s efforts at improving women’s living standard.
Masari said: “It is the desire of the administration to empower and uplift women, create enabling environment economically and otherwise for business to grow and thrive in the midst of the current recession.”
He said the participants were expected to be self-reliant, noting that the programme was aimed at eradicating poverty and reducing unemployment.
The programme Coordinator, Samuel Adebayo, said CBN had earmarked N220 billion for the development of Small and Medium Enterprises in the country.
Adebayo explained that 60 per cent of the fund was set aside for women in the 36 states, adding tha the trainees would access the facilities and become employers of labour.
The Commissioner for Women Affairs, Dr. Badiyya Hassan, said the training would take place for two weeks in the three senatorial zones of the state.
Hassan commended the current government for initiating series of programmes aimed at improving women’s living standard.
