The draw for the Orange CAF Champions League group stage and the second 1/8th round of the Orange CAF Confederation Cup took take place in Cairo on Tuesday.
Nigeria’s only surviving team in the continent, Sunshine Stars of Akure, is drawn in what is best described as a group of death.
In Group A, Sunshine Stars will do battle with three North African sides in the quest for a place in the semi finals.
Seeded a top team following the team’s outing in last season’s Confederation Cup, Sunshine will battle Esperance (Tunisia), AS Chlef (Algeria) and Etoile Sportive du Sahel of Tunisia.
In Group B, Ahly (Egypt), TP Mazembe (RD Congo), Berekum Chealsea (Ghana) and Zamalek (Egypt) will slug it out.
Reacting to the draws, the Executive Director of the Ondo State Football Agency, Mike Idoko, said Sunshine will scale the hurdles of the North Africans.
Idoko said: “We are not afraid of any team because right from the start, we are aware of the fact that we could play any team in our quest to win the cup. We will not disappoint Nigerians.”
