Buhari’s 2019 Budget presentation under threat as National Assembly workers go on strike

The 2019 Budget presentation by President Muhammadu Buhari next week is under serious threat as the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria has vowed to embark of four days warning strike over unpaid allowances.
Buhari had on Wednesday written to the National Assembly for the presentation of the 2019 Budget on December 19, 2019.
However, PASAN after an emergency meeting held late on Friday resolved to embark on four days warning strike starting from December 17 till December 19.
This was stated in a letter dated December 14, signed by the Chairman of PASAN, Comrade Musa Muhammed, and Comrade Sulaiman Haruna.
PASAN in the letter asked his members to stay off from their respective duties from December 17 till December 19 to express dissatisfaction with the non-payment of their allowances.
It could be recalled that two weeks ago the National Assembly workers shut down the plenary session of the Senate and the House of Representatives to protest the non-payment of their N5.8 billion allowances.
They later accused the President of the Senate, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki; Speaker, House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara; and Clerk of the National Assembly, Sani Omolori, of the mismanagement of the funds meant to pay their allowances.
But Saraki has distanced lawmakers from the plight of the workers, saying it is the business of the management of the National Assembly to pay such allowances.
