Strong indications have emerged that the police might disrupt Sunday’s #bringbackourgirls sit-out at the Unity Fountain in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
A statement by the group on Sunday said as early as 7am, the police had drafted a team of policemen to the venue of the rally.
At about 8.30am, a sound system company that was setting up speakers and microphones for the rally scheduled for later this afternoon was ordered out of the Unity Fountain or face arrest.
As at 2pm, over 20 policemen have occupied the particular spot at the Unity Fountain where concerned Nigerians had peacefully gathered for days to demand that the Government #BringBackOurGirls ALIVE before the commencement of the World Economic Forum.
The statement, signed by Rotimi Olawale, added: “Despite the looming police threat, #BringBackOurGirls Campaign is determined to continue its sit-out and will assemble at the Unity Fountain from 3pm today. We remain resolute that we have a constitutional right to gather and protest in a peaceful and orderly manner.”
