Unknown gunmen suspected to be members of the Indigenous People of Biafra on Tuesday in Anambra shot dead Chike Akunyili, the husband of the late director-general of the National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Dora Akunyili.
Chike was said to have been shot dead while returning to Enugu from an event to honour his late wife.
The attack reportedly occurred on Tuesday night at Umuoji, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State.
He was said to have been killed alongside his police escort and one Aloysius, identified as his driver.
His death was confirmed by his son, Obumneme Akunyili, to the BBC Igbo on Tuesday.
The wife, Dora, died of uterine cancer on June 7, 2014.
