Bayern Munich have won a 10th successive Bundesliga title after getting the better of Borussia Dortmund at the Allianz Arena.
It represents a perfect league start for Julian Nagelsmann in his first season in charge and may go some way to compensating for the Bavarian side’s Champions League elimination at the hands of Villarreal.
Bayern’s vastly superior goal difference meant a point would realistically have been enough, but the win made the title a mathematical certainty.
Serge Gnabry got the champions off the mark with a stunning volley from the edge of the area, with Robert Lewandowski doubling the lead before half-time.
Emre Can gave Dortmund hope from the penalty spot, but a late Jamal Musiala goal ensured Nagelsmann’s side claimed victory.
Lewandowski’s goal was his 33rd in the league this season in just 33 appearances.
He has 48 in all competitions, and needs just one more to pass the tally he posted in the 2020-21 campaign.
The Poland striker was also part of the last team other than Bayern to win the German title.
He scored 22 league goals for Borussia Dortmund in 2011-12 as Jurgen Klopp’s side finished eight points clear at the top, and also helped Klopp’s team run Bayern close in the Champions League final 12 months later.
With 75 points from 31 games, Bayern are just three shy of last season’s total under Hansi Flick.
Dortmund, meanwhile, are assured of Champions League football next season despite the defeat, thanks to Freiburg dropping points against Borussia Monchengladbach.
