The Enugu State House of Assembly Committee on Education on Wednesday ordered the vice chancellor of the state university to furnish it with certain documents relating to the institution.
Speaking when the committee members visited the institution, its Chairman, Mathew Ugwueze, wondered why the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Luke Anike, shunned the committee since October when the documents were requested.
Ugwueze said the vice chancellor had denied the committee access to carry out its oversight functions for eight months.
He said the committee requested for the institution’s nominal role, number of students and the appraisal of the institution, adding that it had not responded to the request.
Also speaking, a member of the committee, Ezenta Ezani, said the Assembly had the constitutional right to perform its oversight function, adding that the institution had some skeleton in its cupboard.
He said the vice chancellor’s response was not acceptable to the committee, adding that he deliberately ignored the request.
The 13-member committee blamed the vice chancellor for not providing the necessary information to enable them to carry out their over-sight function.
The chairman ordered the vice chancellor to bring the requested documents o assembly complex on Thursday.
Anike had expressed regrets for the delay, saying that the entire documents were not within the school premises.
He promised to present the necessary documents as requested.
