Members of the All Progressives Congress Action Group in Ekiti State have expressed confidence and solidarity with the National Leader of the party, Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu.
The group stated this position after it met with Tinubu at his Bourdillon, Ikoyi, Lagos State home on Sunday evening.
The Ekiti State APC Action Group was established with the purpose of complementing the efforts of the APC in Ekiti State to ensure the victory of all the party’s candidates at the February polls and also to redeem the floundering fortunes of the state, which it said for the past few months has been in the news largely for negative narratives.
Sources close to the meeting disclosed that the APC Action Group had a fruitful meeting with Tinubu with the resolution to secure an overwhelming victory for the APC in the February elections.
The group was led by Senator Babafemi Ojudu and included a former Secretary to the Ekiti State Government, Alhaji Ganiyu Owolabi; former Commissioners; Special Advisers; Chairmen of Local Government; and members of the House of Assembly, among which were Adedipe Churchill, Funminiyi Afuye, Dr. Bayo Orire and many others.
The Ekiti State APC Action Group said the meeting was aimed at reassuring Tinubu that Ekiti State people appreciate his role in the entrenchment of democracy in Nigeria and in the state in particular.
Ojudu said after the meeting: “We came to assure Asiwaju of the solidarity of Ekiti and the fact that Ekiti people are part of the larger Yoruba family. We came to show our unflinching commitment to the victory of the APC and all its candidates at the February elections. We came to let Asiwaju know of our plans to enrich the campaign even in the face of threats and intimidation of APC members in Ekiti State by the new governor and his party.”
Sources revealed that the meeting, which lasted for several hours, resolved as follows:
> Commitment of Ekiti people to the progressive politics under the auspices of the All Progressives Congress.
> Commend Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu’s commitment to the enthronement of democracy and the rule of law in Ekiti State and that all hope is not lost irrespective of the setback occasioned by the controversial loss of the APC at the June 21 poll.
> Ensure the victory of the APC and all its candidates, both at the National, and at the State levels at the February elections in Ekiti State.
> To consult widely with all key stakeholders including but not limited to the Chairman of the APC in Ekiti State, Chief Jide Awe so as effectively mobilize Ekiti people in all the local governments , towns and villages in Ekiti State towards the victory of the APC in the coming elections.
