The Niger State Governor, Dr. Babangida Aliyu, on Tuesday lambasted the All Progressives Congress for its criticism of the Peoples Democratic Party-led administration in the state, adding that the opposition is too blind to notice all his achievements.
Aliyu advised the people of Niger State not to be taken in by the gimmicks of the opposition, saying that the projects carried out by him makes the APC’s claim on the state of infrastructure in the state untenable.
Reacting to the APC’s criticism of Governor Aliyu’s achievements, the governor’s spokesman, Danladi Ndayebo, described the statement by the opposition as malicious and bereft of any shred of sincerity.
Ndayebo said Aliyu has stamped his seal of excellence on all the critical sectors of the state’s economy such as roads, education, agriculture, security, health, housing and infrastructural development.
He said the reconstruction of all the major roads in the capital city, Kutigi-Fazhi Road, rehabilitation of Minna industrial layout road network, Batati-Dabban road, Luma-Babana Road, Bonu-Gurara Waterfalls; Mokwa-Raba road, Birigi-Lapai Gwari, Lapai-Gulu-Muye road and several others makes APC’s claim on the state of infrastructure in the state untenable.
The statement said a lot of work has also been done in the education sector with the introduction of free education for all students (both indigenes and non indigenes) up to Senior Secondary School as well as payment of WAEC and NECO fees to all students regardless of state of origin.
Furthermore, he said: “Maternal mortality has reduced drastically under Governor Aliyu through the introduction of free anti-natal care for pregnant women and also free medical care for the aged and children from the age of 0-5years.”
The statement also said that Governor Aliyu’s administration has built more houses than any other administration in the state, just as it challenged the APC to check up facts before criticising government.
The statement said there is abundant evidence that tremendous gains have been made in all the critical sectors of the state’s economy, this is as the governor reiterated his resolve on all ongoing projects before the May 29, 2015 terminal date of the administration.
Governor Aliyu said: “The APC will definitely be blind to the wind of revolution blowing across the state because its criticism is not only malicious but lacks sincerity.
“It is sad that the APC believes that good governance is only possible when opposition wins election in the state.”
