Ajimobi, Ahmed, Fayemi, Oshiomhole congratulate Adesina

The Governors of Ogun and Kwara States, Senator Ibikunle Amosun and Dr Abdulfatah Ahmed, have congratulated the Deputy Managing Director of The Sun Publishing Company, publishers of The Sun titles, Femi Adesina, on his emergence as the president of the Nigerian Guild of Editors.
Ajimobi and Ahmed urged Adesina to take the Guild to greater heights.
Ahmed, in a congratulatory message to Adesina, signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Alhaji Abdulwahab Oba, said the NGE under Adesina should not only continue with the good deeds of his predecessor, Gbenga Adefaye, but work with other stakeholders in the profession to ensure that charlatans and quacks have no place in journalism.
He urged him to ensure that the ideals of journalism are strictly adhered to by practitioners.
He said: “I have no doubt that given the track records of Mr. Femi Adesina as a journalist of quality and columnist per excellence, he is immensely endowed to drive the guild and journalism profession to greater heights.”
Ahmed urged the new NGE president to operate an inclusive policy in order to strengthen the unity of the Guild.
He promised to collaborate with the Guild and other stakeholders in the media to promote the welfare of its practitioners and accelerate the emergence of a free society where the rights of citizens are not only guaranteed but protected.
Amosun, in a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media, Funmi Wakama, described Adesina as “a consummate journalist who has over the years adhered to the tenets of the pen profession.
“His emergence as the President of NGE is therefore well deserved.”
Amosun urged the new executive to continue to promote peaceful coexistence among Nigerians and “uphold the responsibility and accountability of the Government to the people” in line with Section 22 of the 1999 Constitution.
He praised the peaceful conduct of the poll and urged the nation to take its cue from it.
Amosun wished the new executive a successful tenure.
The Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, has also congratulated Adesina.
Fayemi expressed confidence in the ability of  Adesina, a respected journalist and celebrated writer, to lead the NGE to greater heights.
The governor, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Olayinka Oyebode, congratulated members of the Guild for a successful election.
He also hailed the choice of Adesina as president, saying that the Sun’s Deputy Editor-In-Chief possesses the requisite experience, exposure, contact and maturity to succeed in his new office and reposition the  Guild.
He urged Adesina to see his emergence as NGE president as an opportunity to make history by using his position to contribute to efforts to deepen democracy, accountability and good governance in the country.
Fayemi charged the new NGE president, whom he described as “a gentle man and courageous writer”, not to shirk in his responsibility of speaking truth to power, for which he is well respected as a reporter, editor, columnist and newspaper executive.
The governor, who described Adesina as an epitome of journalistic excellence, urged the newly-elected NGE president to build on the success recorded by the outgoing executive, led by another excellent journalist, Gbenga Adefaye.
He praised the NGE for organizing a peaceful, transparent and credible election, which he described as a good example of how electoral process should be.
Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State has congratulated Adesina also.
In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Peter Okhiria, Oshiomhole said: “Your election to lead the elite group of Nigeria Editors is well deserved as you have proved beyond reasonable doubt that you  have the capacity to lead the Guild.
“I recall my encounter with you at the Nigerian Editors Conference in Benin City in 2011, where you displayed intrinsic intellect, and with your election, I have no doubt in my mind that the Guild is in safe hands.
“Following the remarkable achievements recorded by your predecessor, Mr. Gbenga Adefaye, I’m sure you will bring on board a breath of fresh air and build on the successes on ground.
“While I commend the Nigerian Guild of Editors for the rancor-free process which produced the new leaders, I plead with the new President to be magnanimous in victory and work closely with all to make the Guild even stronger.”
