The Kwara State Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed has felicitated with the newly inaugurated executive members of the University of Ilorin branch of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, under the chairmanship of Dr. Wahab Egbewole, Dean of the Faculty of Law.
The governor, in a congratulatory message to the new chairman and other members of his executive team on their well deserved appointment, asked them to justify the confidence reposed in them by their colleagues.
Ahmed specifically enjoined Egbewole to bring his wealth of experience to bear as a former chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association and the current Dean of Law, to move the union forward and sustain the peace, which the University is known for.
“Your election,” the governor said, “is not only a call to service, but a trust of performance and excellence.”
“University of Ilorin,” Ahmed continued, “is unique with discipline, academic excellence and strict adherence to the school’s academic calendar which the new executive should maintain.”
While congratulating the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, and the entire university community on the successful conduct of the ASUU election, Ahmed assured the institution of government’s backing for a productive collaboration with institutions of higher learning in the state to improve the living standard of the citizens.
Meanwhile, Governor Ahmed has also congratulated Senator Liyel Imoke on his re-election as the governor of Cross River State.
In a congratulatory message to the governor-elect and the people of Cross River State, Ahmed said by the victory, the people of Cross River State have demonstrated their support for Imoke’s administration, which he described as the product of hardwork and genuine commitment to good governance.
In a statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Alhaji Abdulwahab Oba, the overnor urged Imoke to remain focused on the implementation of people-oriented programmes, which led to his re-election for a second term.
Ahmed, while also advising Imoke to, in the spirit of togetherness, extend his hands of fellowship to his political opponents, said he should make his administration an all-inclusive government in the task of taking the state to the next level.
Ahmed congratulated President Goodluck Jonathan and the national leadership of the Peoples democratic Party for their efforts in ensuring that the party continues to wax stronger with electoral victories.
The governor also gave kudos to the Independent National Electoral Commission for conducting a free and fair election in Cross River State, urging the commission to sustain the tempo in subsequent elections.
