The African Champions, Super Eagles, will depart the country’s shores on Thursdayahead of the all-important AFCON qualifying encounter against the Red Devils of Congo in Ponte Noire this weekend.
The Super Eagles, according to an impeccable source, are expected to travel aboard chatter Discovery Airline from the Nnamdi Azikiwe stadium in Abuja.
The team will likely have two training sessions in Congo before the crucial game.
The source added that though the planned early departure of the team has been perfected, the financial crunch hitting the football federation is posing serious challenge to the arrangement, adding that the eggheads are still battling to secure the fund to prosecute the match.
According to our source, miffed by the financial problem, the federation’s President, Amaju Pinnick, and some members of the board had held a meeting with the Minister of Sports, Dr. Tammy Danagogo, which lasted for several hours on Monday in his office to find solution to raising the fund.
The source revealed: “By our arrangements, the team is supposed to depart on Thursday to enable them have more than one training there and equally acclimatise but the truth is that the Federation is facing serious cash crunch.
“You must have noticed that the eggheads of the federation led by federation President, Pinnick Amaju, held several honours meeting with the Minister of Sports on Monday on the possibility of raising the fund to prosecute the match.”
