Gabros International FC of Nnewi has won the 8th edition of the Neros Pharmaceuticals/Anambra FA Cup.
Gabros won the cup after trouncing Cardinal FC of Onitsha 4-0 at the Neros Stadium, Nanka in the Orumba North Local Government Area of the state.
Two goals each from Solomon Enudi and Oluchukwu Nwosu in the first half and two more goals from Stephen Chukwude and Abuchi Okere sealed victory for the Nnewi millionaire team.
In the third place match in the 19-team competition decided earlier, Ikpeazu Redoubtable of Onitsha defeated Smithcity FC of Awka by a lone goal.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the FA Cup, which ended on Sunday, kicked off on March 23.
The tournament was suspended by the Nigerian Football Federation on April 3 due to a leadership crisis which rocked the Anambra Football Association.
Two factions of the FA led by Mike Umeh and Jude Obikwelu, the Deputy, had produced two factional finalists – Gabros FC, Ikpeazu Redoubtable and Cardinal FC, Smithcity respectively – before the NFF stopped the competition.
Iloegbune Okoye, the Chairman of the Normalisation Committee, while congratulating the winners, said he was glad that the competition was successful.
Okoye said the committee was working towards a successful FA election in the state, calling for the support of stakeholders.
Coach Mitko Dobrev of Gabros FC, who said the club was improving with every match, also congratulated his boys for winning two cups in four months, including the Super Four and FA cup.
Gabros FC went home with the cup and cash prize of N2 million, Cardinal FC got N1 million, while N500, 000 went to Ikpeazu Redoubtable, which came third.
Smithcity got N200,000 for their effort as fourth best team in the tournament.
