Gabros International FC of Nnewi, Anambra State on Sunday showed class as they beat their visitors, Enyimba FC of Aba, Abia, by two unreplied goals.
After a barren first half with series of near goal attempts by both sides, Stephen Chukwudi found the net for the home side with a solo run from about 30 metres.
The over 3,000 fans at the Gabros Stadium were thrown into frenzy when Chibuzor Okonkwo converted a penalty kick, few seconds to the end of the match to seal the game for his team.
Kadiri Ikhana, coach of Enyimba FC, faulted the booking, saying that the Gabros player was already falling before he had contact with his skipper, Chima Udoji.
Ikhana said though a good match, his side would have come out better from it.
He, however, promised that the Peoples Elephants would do well this season as there were still over 30 matches before the end 2014/2015.
On his part, Coach Mitko Dobrev of Gabros said his team were a good side and won due to technical and tactical superiority.
Dobrev described the infringement as a penalty offence, saying it was a matter for the referees association to investigate as he was just a coach interested in result.
He said the victory was a fillip for his side that just got promotion from the lower division.
Chidiebere Eze, keeper of Gabros, said it was good defeating a strong side like Enyimba, pointing out they (Gabros) were younger and had the strength to win.
