The Speaker of the House of Representatives and Sokoto State candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Rt. Hon. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has raised the alarm over alleged plans by the Peoples Democratic Party to postpone the February general elections and formation of an interim government.
Tambuwal levelled the allegation during the official flag-off campaign ceremony for the 2015 general elections, which took place in Sokoto on Sunday.
Apparently referring to suggestions by some Nigerians that President Goodluck Jonathan could postpone the elections in view of the insurgency in the North East, Tambuwal warned that there is no such provision in the Nigerian constitution.
He said: “You cannot postpone elections.
“There is no such provision in the constitution.
“You cannot form an interim government.
“The only option is to conduct election.
“An election that must be free, fair and credible.”
Tambuwal claimed that if credible elections are conducted, the APC would sweep all positions in the February elections.
“They fear to conduct the election because they know that if there is a free, fair and credible election, General Muhammadu Buhari and indeed all other categories of APC candidates will win the elections,” he said.
Governor Aliyu Wamakko of Sokoto State urged the people of the state to expose anyone that approaches them to sell the Permanent Voter Cards.
Wamakko said: “They are planning to approach you to buy your PVCs.
“Would you sell it to them?”
The governor, who is APC’s candidate for Sokoto North Senatorial District election, appealed to those who have not collected their PVCs, to do so as “it is only with that you can elect people of your choice”.
Those in attendance at the flag-off included the National Chairman of the APC, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun; the Interim National Chairman of the party, Chief Bisi Akande; a national leader of the party, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu; Governors of Edo and Kwara states, Adams Oshiomhole and Abdulfatai Ahmed; Senators Adamu Aliero, Ahmed Sani Yerima and Atiku Bagudu, who is also the APC governorship candidate for Kebbi State.
