The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Sen. Monday Okpebholo has pledged to make Edo state a comfortable place promising that he would prioritize measures to tackle insecurity and poverty if elected as governor.
Okpebolo made the pledge on Sunday at the inauguration of the New Media Committee of the APC Campaign Council where he said the committee would help engage young people, students, young entrepreneurs and all those who are active in various new media platforms.
He said with a safe environment, people would be able to do their businesses and move around freely which would go a long way in checking the problems of hardship and hunger.
According to him, “I have always been concerned with people’s problems and their welfare and if I have the opportunity to be the governor of this state, I will ensure that every person living in Edo state enjoys the good things of life.”
“I believe in the New Media Committee in my campaign to win the governorship election and I appeal to all members of the committee to do their best for my victory and APC’s victory on September 21, so that the party’s manifesto will be implemented for the betterment of Edo people,” he stated.
On his part, his running mate, Hon Dennis Idahosa, called on members of the Committee to put up their best in the execution of their assignment which he said was very important in the mobilisation of Edo people to win the governorship election.

Inaugurating the Committee, the Director General of APC Campaign Council, Sen. Matthew Urhoghide, said since the coming of the New Media has helped solved issues of awareness because almost everybody is seeing the day to day happenings or events within their environment through the new media but urged them to be objective on their reports
He said, “My only appeal to you members of the new media committee is to be objective and be factual in your reporting of the events as they happen, there should be no falsehood in your reporting, because we will not want to be dragged into unnecessary libel.
“With me as the Director General of the campaign Council, I will ensure that you are given all the necessary support and encouragement to carry out your assignment because we believe in your ability to promote our candidate, Monday Okpebholo and present him to the electorate as the best of all the candidate to win this election and you will fail us”
Also speaking, a chieftain of the party, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, pointed out that the new media has transformed the world into a global village, just as it has played a vital role in mobilising the populace in taking vital decisions that benefit the majority and charged the members of the committee to be responsible in the discharge of their duties.
In his welcome address, the Chairman of the Committee, Osigwe Omo-Ikirodah said the committee’s focus would be on creating compelling content that resonates with the electorate, countering misinformation swiftly, and amplifying our party’s achievements and vision.
“We must engage with the youth, address their concerns, and inspire them to join our cause. Our digital footprint should reflect our commitment to transparency, development, and the betterment of Edo State.
“Our theme, “Effective Digital Media Strategy as a Tool for a Secured APC Victory in Edo 2024,” resonates with our shared mission to harness the power of digital platforms to secure a resounding victory in the upcoming elections.
“In today’s fast-paced world, digital media is not just a tool; it is the battlefield where elections are won and lost.
“Our ability to effectively utilize these platforms will determine our success. We must be innovative, strategic, and relentless in our efforts.
“I want to emphasize that our campaign will be issue-based, focusing on the real concerns and aspirations of the people of Edo State. We are committed to a peaceful, fair, and democratic process.
“This election is not a do-or-die affair; it is an opportunity to present our vision for a brighter future and let the electorate decide,” the chairman stated.
