The University of Port Harcourt, Rivers State on Tuesday picked up three gold medals at the ongoing Nigeria University Games Association Games at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State.
Ngozi Ogodo got the first gold for the university in the 5,000m female event.
The second gold for the university came from the 200m freestyle swimming for women, while the third gold was won in the 100m butterfly swimming for men.
The university also won silver medals in the 200m freestyle swimming for women and 100m butterfly swimming for men.
In the 200m freestyle swimming for women, Nnamdi Azikiwe University took the bronze just as University of Ilorin picked the bronze in the 100m men butterfly swimming event.
In the male table tennis category, the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, smashed University of Maiduguri 3-1, while Ahmadu Bello University fell to the strokes of Federal University of Technology Akure 0-3.
The two victorious universities in the men’s table tennis have qualified for the quarter-final stage in the event.
Similarly, Adamawa State University thrashed the host, OAU, 2-0 in the badminton men singles, while University of Lagos showed superiority over University of Port Harcourt in the event, winning 2-0.
The fixtures for Wednesday show that finals will hold in pole vault, javelin and 100m hurdles for men and women.
The final for 400m hurdle for men and women, high jump, triple jump and shot put for men and women will also be decided on Wednesday.
