This year’s edition, the third in the series, of the Kwete Scrabble Championship has been won by Eta Karo (Masters) and Venayori Kinga (Opens) categories in Adamawa State over the weekend.
To win the tournament, Eta Karo clocked 8.5 wins and a 782 margin to beat Moses Peter, who picked the second slotahead of Olaiya Kabir, Wale Ilori, Saheed Tayo, who clocked seven wins each but were separated on the log by their marginal scorelines.
The Masters category, which had just a dozen players, saw Moses Peter recording the high game score of 560.
In the Opens category, though Venayori lost the last game to Mansur 388:429 but still won the opens category.
There were 15 participants.
Mansur Adamu with 233 points, Venayori’s nemesis, came second with eight wins unlike Venayori who had nine with 685 points.
Adegbola Abiola came third with seven wins and a cumulative of 466.
Igwe Jerry, Ufuoma Julius, Midala Apollos all had seven points like Adegbola.
The high game score for the category was recorded by Igwe Jerry who had 613.
