An Ado-Ekiti Magistrates’ Court on Monday remanded a 45-year-old man, Ajibade Olaoluwa, in prison for allegedly raping a 13-year-old girl.
The accused, of no fixed address, is standing trial on a charge of rape.
The Prosecutor, Oriyomi Akinwale, told the court that the accused committed the offence on January 23 in Ayede-Ekiti.
He said that the accused defiled the 13-year-old girl who was sent on an errand.
The prosecutor told the court that the brother of the accused, who lured the victim into the house, held the victim’s legs while he was raping her.
He said the victim’s noise drew the attention of neighbours who entered the room and met her on the bed crying.
Akinwale said the offence contravened Section 31 of the Child Rights Law of Ekiti State, 2012.
The prosecutor also urged the court to remand the accused in prison pending receipt of legal advice from the office of the Director of Public Prosecution.
The plea of the accused was also not taken.
The Magistrate, Modupe Afeniforo, ordered the remand of the accused and adjourned the case till March 4 for mention.
