Governor Ben Ayade of Cross River has directed the State Commissioner of Police, Hafiz Inuwa, to stop and search all political parties’ campaign convoys in the state to curb illegal arms.
Ayade gave the directive in a statement issued on Monday, in Calabar, by his Chief Press Secretary, Christian Ita.
The governor said that the directive had become imperative following security reports which indicated that some politicians and their supporters were stockpiling arms and ammunition ahead of the forthcoming elections.
The governor assured residents in the state of adequate security before, during and after the general elections.
