The Deputy President of the Senate, Ike Ekweremadu, and Senator Bassey Akpan have been charged to court by the Federal Government for allegedly refusing to declare their assets to the special presidential investigation panel for the recovery of public property.
The two separate charges were instituted against the senators on Wednesday before Justice John Tsoho of the Federal High Court in Abuja.
However, the court has ordered that the charges and other accompanying papers be served on the lawmakers through substituted means by the Clerk of the National Assembly.
The trial judge then fixed October 22 for the next hearing date in respect of Ekweremadu’s case, while that of Akpan was fixed for November 19.
