Ogun Assembly screens State’s Auditor-General Nominee

The Ogun House of Assembly on Monday screened Governor Ibikunle Amosun’s nominee for the post of the State Auditor-General, Sunday Olubanjo.
The Speaker, Suraj Adekunbi, represented by his deputy, Olakunle Oluomo, presided over the Committee of the Whole House that screened the nominee in the Assembly Complex in Abeokuta.
Adekunbi urged the nominee to step up measures at promoting transparency and prudence in the audited financial records of all Ministries, Departments and Agencies of Government.
He said that when confirmed by the state assembly, the nominee for the Office of the State Auditor General should ensure prompt submission of the Audited Accounts of all the MDAs.
According to him, the constitutional responsibility bestowed on the holder of the office is not to witch hunt anyone but to work within the provisions of the constitution.
Adekunbi said: “The constitutional responsibility of the office is also to promote strict adherence to accountability and transparency to aid good governance.”
Responding to questions from lawmakers at the screening, Olubanjo solicited the support of the legislature to ensure continued promotion of transparency in all audited accounts produced by the office.
He promised to evolve more creative means of ensuring efficient service delivery when eventually confirmed by the House.
Governor Amosun on October 31 wrote to the House, seeking the ratification of the appointment of Olubanjo as the State’s Auditor General.
