Worried by the level of intrusion on the Zuma Rock area, the Niger State Government on Monday warned that all lands gotten within the vicinity will be revoked as the area is meant for tourism development.
The Commissioner for Information, Tourism and Culture, Jonathan Tsado Vatsa, sounded this warning when he visited the site.
According to Vatsa: “Holders of Certificates of Occupancy on all lands surrounding Zuma Rock must stop forthwith any further development.
“The lands surrounding Zuma Rock have been marked and demarcated into plots ready for sale to unsuspecting members of public by shylock land speculators.
“These lands surrounding Zuma Rock are under the purview of my Ministry and are meant for tourism development, which is the main focus of the present administration to serve as major revenue earner.”
The Commissioner expressed shock at how some persons whom he said do not have the interest of the State at heart acquired what he described as the Niger State commonwealth meant for Nigerlites as personal property for selfish gains.
Vatsa warned that “those in possession of Certificates of Occupancy on such lands should note that Niger State Government has the right to revoke all plots of land because, public interest overrides individuals’ selfish interest”.
He added that the Niger State Government would not hesitate to meet force with force with any individual or group no matter how highly placed caught circumventing this order.
Furthermore, he cautioned that “any person or group of persons that patronises these shylock land speculators on any parcel of land surrounding Zuma Rock does so at his or her own risk”.
