FRSC warns construction companies on signs at sites

The Corps Marshal and Chief Executive of Federal Road Safety Corps,
Boboye Oyeyemi, has warned that Construction Companies must ensure
that there are adequate warning signs placed strategically in areas
where construction work is ongoing to warn motorists and other road
users of the need of cautious approach while driving.
In a statement issued by Bisi Kazeem, Head, Media Relations and
Strategy, the concern about the safety of Nigerians during this ember
months and the recent crashes along Lagos / Ibadan expressway
associated with inadequate construction warnings and diversions
without warnings necessitated the Corps Marshal’s call for adequate
warning signs fixed by Construction Companies handling road projects
in order to ensure the safety of all road users travelling home to
meet their loved ones. The recent one been the Ogunmakin crash where a
Man diesel tanker loaded with PMS had head on collission with a
luxurious bus and got four people killed is regretted.
Bisi Kazeem also added that while the Corps Marshal made it clear that
Officers and Men of FRSC will work round the clock to ensure reduction
in Road Traffic Crashes during this ember period, he also acknowledged
that there are massive road and rail projects going on which may run
through the ember months until completion, hence the need for
Construction Companies to attach value to the lives of Nigerians.
He stated that the Corps Marshal also used the medium to warn
travellers, and transport operators against night journeys given the
inherent dangers it poses to the precious lives of Nigerians due to
poor visibility.
In the words of the Head of Media Relations and Strategy, “the Corps
Marshal stated that aside the possibility of encountering brigands
while travelling at night, the risk of becoming victims of road
crashes is also very high”.
The Corps Marshal has issued a rallying call to all Nigerians to
desist from travelling at night owing to the fact that most times,
intercity commercial drivers who are desperately seeking to make
profit take the risk of not having sufficient rest after one journey
during the day, they immediately jump at the opportunity of
undertaking another trip because of the availability of passengers,
not minding the time of day, distance, safety of their lives and that
of the passengers.
Commander Bisi Kazeem stated that the Corps Marshal advised passengers
to think of their safety first before the thought of meeting up with
appointments compel them to embark on night journey. In a word, he
summed, “better to be late than to be the Late”.
