Succour has come to 60 indigent undergraduates from Delta State at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), as they received N50,000 financial assistance each from a philanthropist, Chief Jude Ozah, the “Isagba of Ogwashi-Uku kingdom” in Delta State.
Presenting the sum of N50,000 to each of the beneficiaries at Nsukka on Tuesday, Prof. Ike Onyishi, Dean, Faculty of Social Science, UNN, urged the beneficiaries to ensure that the money is used for what it is meant for.
Onyishi said the objective of Chief Ozah in instituting the financial assistance was to help indigent undergraduates of Delta State origin to fund their education.
The dean explained that Ozah had, in April 2021 while chairing a public lecture of the faculty, instituted a N10 million scholarship grant for indigent undergraduates of Delta State at the UNN to assist them in their education.

He thanked the donor for investing in the education of the beneficiaries, noting that the financial assistance will go a long way in assisting them to meet their academic responsibilities.
“Ensure that you use the money for the purpose it was meant for, so as to encourage the donor to invest more on education.
“The beneficiaries should not only make judicious use of the money, they should also study hard to ensure that they make good grades on graduation to justify the financial relief they received,” he said.
Onyishi commended the donor (Ozah) for the love he has for education and future of youths of Delta State.
“I also commend the disbursement Committee for their diligence and dedication in selecting those who are actually in need of the assistance.
“Many undergraduates from Delta applied but the disbursement committee, after screening, selected 60 indigent students from the lot.
“If you are an indigent student of Delta State origin in the UNN, and you didn’t benefit this year, you may benefit next year,” he said.
According to the dean, the first disbursement of the financial help started in 2021, but could not take place in 2022 as a result of the nationwide ASUU strike which lasted eight months.
Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Ekwenuya Adanne of the Department of Sociology and an indigene of Ogwashi-Ukwu community in Aniocha South Local Government Area of Delta State, said the beneficiaries would forever remain grateful to Ozah.
