At least 5.4 million people in Niger State will benefit from this year’s distribution of the Long Lasting Insecticide Nets.
It is to be distributed by the Society for Family Health.
The Managing Director of Society for Family Health, Bright Ekeremadu, disclosed on Tuesday during the flag off ceremony of the 2014 distribution of the LLINs in Minna that the distribution of LLINs would include capacity of community members on how to effectively use an LLINs through mass community based campaign in the state
Ekeremadu, who was represented by Hajiya Hajo Sani, the Director of Special Duties of SFH, said the aim is to reach out to over 5.4 million people with LLINs in the state.
He said: “The method of distributing the nets includes a One Net Card equals to One Net policy. 2.7 million nets would be distributed, one net to two persons within the same household, that is 5.4 million people will benefit.”
Also Hajiya Jummai Aliyu, the Net Ambassador of Niger State and Wife of the Niger State Governor, said adequate arrangement has been put in place for a successful campaign.
Aliyu called on the people of the state to take the exercise seriously, adding: “We must all own this net campaign and ensure its success.
“Women must ensure that the nets are hung and the entire family sleeps inside them.”
The National Coordinator of the National Malaria Elimination Programme, Dr. Nenna Ezewigwe, said NMEP would continue to support SFH, adding that personnels have been trained at the state and Local Government levels that would oversees the distribution process.
Ezewigwe, who was represented by Dr. Perpetual Uhomoibi, Director and Head of Monitoring and Evaluation of Federal Ministry of Health, said anti linkage micro organism method would be used.
She added that at every distribution centre, there would be documentation at the end of the exercise to ensure that these nets are not diverted.
