The Federal Government has been urged to consider reinstating the appointment of National Amirul Hajj, as was the practice in the past.
This was contained in a press release signed by the Public Relations Officer, Kano State Pilgrims Welfare Board, Sulaiman Dederi.
Dederi disclosed that the Emir of Kano, Malam Muhammad Sanusi II, made the call, while receiving stakeholders from the Board, at his residence.
The Emir emphasized the importance of reviving the selection of a National Amirul Hajj, who would serve as the leader of the Nigerian delegation during the annual Hajj pilgrimage, noting that the concept has its origin from the time of Prophet Muhammad (SAW), who encouraged the appointment of leaders to guide groups on such spiritual journeys.
He stressed the need for making the appointment of a National Amirul Hajj a necessary and consistent part of the Hajj exercise.
On his part, the Director General of the Board, Alhaji Lamin Rabi’u Danbappa, said they were at the Emir’s palace to invite His Highness to attend the final Hajj demonstration at the Hajj Camp.
Alhaji Lamin Rabi’u added that the Kano State Pilgrims Welfare Board has concluded all necessary arrangements for the flag-off of the airlift of pilgrims scheduled for 13th May 2025.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the Board of Directors, Alhaji Yusif Lawan, expressed deep appreciation to His Royal Highness, for his unwavering commitment to the welfare of Nigerian pilgrims, restating the call for the Federal Government to consider reinstating the position.
