The Edo Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) said it destroyed 50 hectares of marijuana farms and 17 tons of the substance seized in 2023.
The State’s Commander of the agency, Buba Wakawa, disclosed this on Tuesday, in Benin, the State’s
Wakama made the disclosure, while briefing newsmen on the Command’s achievements in 2023.

He said that the hectares were made up of 46 farms located in different parts of the State.
The NDLEA Commander said that the suspects chose to engage in the cultivation of the illicit substance, rather than farming of food crops that would be useful to the populace.
The Commander said that the agency also seized 17.955 tons of marijuana and other psychotropic substances within the period.
“The highest drug seizure is marijuana which is 17.487 tons while the others such as cocaine, heroine, codeine syrup among other psychotropic drugs constituted the other value” Wakama affirmed.
The NDLEA Commander called on the public to give the agency useful information that would help it to reduce drugs to the barest minimum in the State.
