A socio-cultural organization in the southeast, Nzuko Ndigbo , has lamented over the deteriorating state of security in some states within the southeast geo-political zone.
Following the prevailing challenge, the group urged the Igbos to defend themselves against killers, prowling everywhere in the land, and frowning at the continuous maiming and wicked destruction of lives and properties of the people.
The group’s condemnation is coming on the heels of the worsening insecurity in many parts of the Igbo land, especially the recent killing of a staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Imo state.
Reacting to the ugly incident, Nzuko Ndigbo, in a release issued Sunday and signed by its spokesman, Edomobi Egejuru, lamented the killing of a staff of the INEC in the Ihite Uboma local government area and some innocent citizens that came to register in the ongoing Continuous voters registration (CVR) exercise in the state.
The group alleged that those who want to create the impression that the Igbo be entrusted with power in 2023 were behind the killings.
“Life is sacred in Igbo land and any Igbo person that deliberately kill a fellow Igbo man no matter what happens will be dealt with by Igbo dieties and gods”, the group vowed.
Against the background of the current challenge, Nzuko Ndigbo revealed that it has constituted a committee to look into the ongoing killings and destruction of lives and properties in Igbo land, urging natives of the Igbo nation to submit a memorandum to the committee chairman, Professor Mbamara Daniel.
The Igbo umbrella, insisted it’s Igbo turn to produce President Muhammadu Buhari’s successor in 2023, therefore, called on all political parties in Nigeria to zone respective presidential tickets to the zone, in the interest of peace, unity and development of the Nigeria nation.
“It’s a great disservice to dissuade Ndigbo from registering to vote in 2023 just as the campaign against census in the past cost Ndigbo a lot of harm till date.
“Those campaigning for Presidency of Igbo extraction in 2023 are not wrong just as those who want self determination if Nigeria is unable to allow justice to prevail”, the group submitted.
