Less than a week after he dumped the All Progressives Congress former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, will declare to run for the presidency after the National Convention of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP holding in Abuja on Saturday.
This was as Abubakar visited former Military President, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, on Thursday.
According to a source close to the campaign organisation of the Waziri Adamawa: “All arrangements for the declaration have been completed.
“Atiku will declare to run for president on the ticket of the PDP after the convention of our party.”
The Eagle Online learnt that one of the prominent leaders of the party “will play a prominent role in the 2019 presidential campaign of the former vice president”.
The former APC chieftain, who recently defected to the opposition PDP, came into Minna, the Niger State capital, in his private aircraft T 7 AAA at about 12noon in company of former Niger State Governor, Dr. Muazu Babangida Aliyu,.
He was received at the Minna International Airport by the Niger State Deputy Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Mohammed Ketso, and a team of PDP leaders in the state.
Among them were the State Chairman of the party, Alhaji Tanko Beji; his Deputy, Alhaji Aminu Yussuf; Senator Shem Zagbayi Nuhu; and the Secretary of the party in the state, Alhaji Umar Santali.
From the airport the former vice president drove straight to the Minna residence of Babangida.
Abubakar immediately after some formalities went into a closed door meeting with Babangida.
Only Aliyu was part of the meeting which started at about 12.45pm.
The deputy governor of Niger State, an APC member, left once the meeting started.
Aliyu also left 45 minutes after the meeting started.
The meeting lasted over two hours, after which Abubakar left for Abuja through the Minna airport, declining to speak to the press.
