Determined to wrestle powers from the People Democratic Party in 2015, the All Progressives Congress has constituted committees nationwide to network for the actualisation of its dream.
The committee, under the aegis of Progressive Youth Support Good Governance, was inaugurated over the weekend at the Hill Station Hotel in Jos, the Plateau State capital.
Addressing the youths, the National Coordinator of PYSGOGG, Hon. Yakubu Ndam, said they have chosen to come out and support the APC with a firm believe that it is the hopeful platform capable of bringing back Nigeria’s lost glories.
According to Ndam, the PDP government at all levels have failed the nation by not delivering the dividends of democracy owing to bad governance.
He said while President Goodluck Jonathan failed in the development of human and physical infrastructures and job creation for Nigerian youths, Governor Jonah Jang has also selfishly spent well over N200 billion on road projects in his local government, Jos South.
He said: “To proffer solution and alternative to mis-governance in Nigeria, PYSGOGG decided to invite youth leaders of PYSGOGG from all over the country for a two-day summit to brainstorm and offer progressive solution to bad governance in Nigeria under the PDP-led government.”
Ndam appealed to all Nigerians to mobilise and support the APC irrespective of political and religious affiliations.
He said it is the desire of the party to take Nigeria the its rightful destination by ensuring good governance and the rule of law.
Earlier, the Chairman of the occasion, Dr. Ibrahim Yakubu Lame, a governorship aspirant in Bauchi State, called on the youths to support accountability, transparency and quality representation to continue be committed in rebuilding the country.
Lame said the capacity of the Nigerian state has been compromised.
He, however, said the country can be repositioned when the right leadership is put in place.
He said ethnicity and corruption had destroyed the fabric of our society, which gave birth to religious and political crises with many desperate for position .
Lame encouraged the youths who are agents of change to continue to mobilise themselves towards educating others for better years ahead.
In his welcome address, Hon. Latep Dabang, the Plateau State Chairman of the APC, said the state was ready to support the youths initiative for organising ideas that will bring change and progress.
Dabang also said the convention adopted the six-point manifesto that has been extracted from the one submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission earlier for the purpose of the 2015 general elections.
Dabang said: “In this regard, we have conducted a survey to find out what Nigerians urgently need at the moment is to raise their standard of living and ensure their security and welfare.
“Based on the outcome of the survey, we have come up with a six-point manifesto, which we extracted from the one we submitted to INEC earlier.”
The Rivers State Coordinator, Amieyeofori Joshua Erekeosima, said the priority areas for the APC ahead of the 2015 general elections are national security, good governance, human capital development, economic development, land and natural resources as well as foreign policy.
Erekeosima stressed that the issue of job creation, fight against corruption, infrastructural development, health, qualitative education, regular power supply among other are subsumed under these broad priority areas.
According to him, they plan to sensitise the youths on the importance of youth campaign manifesto, which has been adopted at the convention, will be made massively available to all Nigerians.
