Sixteen political parties have demanded the postponement of the February general elections.
The elections are slated for February 14 and 28.
However, sixteen political parties and five presidential candidates for the election on Tuesday urged the Independent National Electoral Commission to postpone the general elections.
They threatened to boycott the elections if INEC decides to go ahead with it.
The parties include the United Democratic Party, Citizen Peoples Party, Peoples Party of Nigeria, Action Alliance, Peoples Democratic Congress, Labour Party, Unity Party of Nigeria, Alliance for Democracy, Democratic Peoples Party, New Nigerian Peoples Party, Peoples Party of Nigeria and the Independent Democrat.
The five presidential candidates who endorsed the postponement are Godson Okoye (UDP), Chief Sam Okoye (CPP), Prince C.O Allagoe (PPN), Tunde Anifowose (AA) and Ganiu Galadima (ACPN).
The parties said: “Some dangerous trends, which if not checked may negatively and adversely affect our democracy.”
They called on the government to take necessary steps to provide adequate security for Nigerians to go out and collect their Permanent Voter Cards in order to be able to exercise their civic and constitutional duty.
