Traditional rulers commend peaceful council poll in Kwara

Some traditional rulers in Kwara State have commended the peaceful conduct of the October 26 council poll in the state.
The rulers – the Olomu of Omu-Aran, Oba Oladele Ibitoye; and the Elegosi of Egosi-Ile, Oba Daniel Dada – gave the commendation while fielding questions from the News Agency of Nigeria on Sunday in Omu-Aran.
They expressed optimism that the people of the state would replicate the same attitude in the 2015 general election.
Oba Ibitoye said: “In the case of the Kwara Saturday council election, I think the government did its best and the peaceful atmosphere that prevailed during the election was a testimony.
“What I have observed so far is that the government has demonstrated its sincerity to ensure that the people’s yearnings for true democracy at the grassroots are entrenched.”
He called on Nigerians to emulate the people of the state in the forthcoming 2015 general election for democracy to be fully entrenched in the country.
While calling on the Federal government to make adequate arrangements for the 2015 polls, the traditional ruler appealed to politicians to always have the fear of God and the interest of the people in the conduct of their affairs.
In his remarks, Oba Dada expressed confidence in the ability of the Kwara State Independent Electoral Commission to conduct peaceful, free and fair elections in the future.
He said: “I still believe in the ability of Kwara State Independent Electoral Commission to continue to supervise elections at the grassroots.
“We are all living witnesses to the feat achieved by KWASIEC in last Saturday’s council election in the state, which was peaceful and orderly.
“With similar adequate preparation at the federal level, I think we will definitely consolidate and sustain our democracy, come 2015.”
