Governor Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo State on Wednesday promised to improve on the quality of education in the state to ensure it ranked among the best in the country.
Mimiko stated this while inaugurating the Caring Heart Mega Primary School, Idiroko, in Ore, Odigbo Local Government Area of the state.
The school has 32 classrooms equipped with a library, a mini clinic and computer laboratory among other facilities.
Mimiko said: “The motive behind the Mega School was to re-engineer education and make it a tool of mobility for those that do not have opportunity to go to school.
“I appeal to the teachers and parents to discharge their duties accordingly for the goals and aspirations of this initiative to be achieved.”
Earlier, Jide Adejuyigbe, the state Commissioner for Education, commended the governor for his initiative at making education accessible to the poor.
Adejuyigbe urged parents and teachers to cooperate with the state government for more dividends of democracy to be felt across the state.
He said: “I am so delighted because today marks a day of great achievement of our amiable governor.
“His burning desire for knowledge has impacted on education in the state.
“The state government has also improved the welfare of teachers by training them, making the Ministry of Education to benefit immensely from the vision of the governor.”
Felix Olatunde, the Caretaker Chairman of the council, said the initiative had created an avenue for the children of the rich and the poor to sit together in a comfortable learning environment.
“Governor Mimiko has given hope to the masses because the children of the poor now access education facilities like their rich counterparts and this has brought joy to the council,” Olatunde said.
The state’s Deputy Governor, Alhaji Ali Olanusi, traditional rulers and other top government functionaries attended the inauguration.
