The Zamfara State Government has announced plans to recruit 565 academic and non-academic staff for its university.
This is contained in a statement issued by the state Commissioner for Information, Ibrahim Dosara, Monday in Gusau, the State’s capital.
Dosara said the institution, which is located at Talata Mafara, had since begun academic activities, but needed more staffers for effective service delivery.
He indicated when the present administration came into power in 2019, academic activities had not commenced.
“It was Gov. Bello Matawalle that approved the immediate commencement of academic activities, which demonstrated his commitment to the university project.
“Matawalle evaluated the socio-economic worth of the university project and decided to pursue its development.
“Consequently, he appointed Prof. Muazu Gusau from the Department of Biochemistry of Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, as the pioneer Vice-Chancellor, to chart the course for the development of the university in June, 2020,” Dosara said.
He added that the Governor later appointed Prof. Yahaya Zakari, the current Vice-Chancellor, also from the Usmanu Danfodiyo University, to speed up the institution’s development.
The Governor, he said, appointed Malam Bashiru Samaila Mafara as the pioneer Registrar; Malam Usman Bungudu as Bursar, and Malam Abubakar Sule Kaura as the Director, Physical Planning, Works and Maintenance.
Dosara confirmed that the National Universities Commission (NUC) had accredited 18 courses run by the university, while 32 programmes got interim accreditation.
According to him, all processes have been concluded for the recruitment of 265 academic and 300 non-academic staff.
“Interviews have been conducted for most of the applicants and are awaiting the last stage of the final screening of the recruitment process.
“His Excellency has also approved the release of N60 million the university owes the part-time lecturers it engaged,” he said.
